THE BEST OF BOTH (Mid North Coast region)
When: Weekend 18-19 August 2018
Where: Mid North Coast
Grades: Strong 2s and Grade 3
Day One will involve approx. 27km of paddling, the bulk of which will be along a stretch of varied coastline (remote beaches and imposing headlands) between Elizabeth Beach and Forster. Conditions permitting, we will land on pretty McBrides Beach, nestled into the northern side of Cape Hawke, for lunch. Dolphin encounters can just about be guaranteed at some stage of the day. Our overnight campsite will be on one of the islands of northern Wallis Lake (a small camping fee is involved). Day Two is a relaxed 16km-paddle down Wallis Lake to Pacific Palms, pulling out approx. 1km from where the expedition started. Expect to finish around 2.30pm.
Participants will need to be self-sufficient in terms of food, water and camping gear. Kayaks will need to be equipped to the Club's Grade 3 requirements. Strong Grade 2 paddlers are welcome to join this trip (a good logbook opportunity for those working towards their Sea Skills Award).
Pre-trip briefing will be held at the put-in point at the eastern end of Elizabeth Beach (a comfortable 3-hour drive from the start of the M1 at Wahroonga) at 9.30am with the plan to be on the water at 10.00am in order to catch a suitable tide when we enter the channel into Wallis Lake.
We may need to swap direction and/or the order between coastal and inshore days if conditions dictate.
